Really great weekend of racing with so many rodent sightings!
Spirit Mt – Drove up with Rich and Sara and arrived plenty early. Pre-rode
the course, waited for the sun to come out, and cheered for Lynne. B-race
had 26(?) starters. After 1st barrier I was riding in first through the
start finish. At this time, the officials announce a 4-place prime – sweet!
3 guys come through and I stick with them to hold onto 4th in the prime lap
(64 oz of Fitger’s beer). Rode next lap with Rich, where we almost had to
dismount to rumble with a rowdy smack-talking spectator. Finished 4th
overall. Fun times, beautiful scenery, friendly bike service and food worth
waiting for…
Boom – Decided to make my debut in the A-race here. Turns out this was wise
due to B-race chaos. I was able to have much fun cheering and watching the
C’s and B’s race. Lined up with 40-ish A’s. Had no expectations, just get a
good workout. Felt really good through the 1st two laps and decided to
start moving up. Passing a few guys each lap, motivated by rowdy rodents
strewn about the course. Met my demise due to Lee’s request to “see some
air.” I obliged, but upon landing flatted with 2 laps to go and no wheels
in the pit. Got to watch the A finish with the rowdy rodents. Excited to
see how the team placed in the team competition…
